Gerry Wilson collects and restores vintage tractors that are powered by the unique 2-cycle Detroit Diesel Engines. Here we take a look at his Massey Ferguson 98, Cockshutt 1900, and Cockshutt 1950. In the late 1950’s Massey Ferguson didn’t have a high horsepower tractor. They reached out to Oliver for a solution and used their Oliver 990’s modified with a Massey Ferguson body, creating the Massey Ferguson 98 Diesel. After Oliver purchased Cockshutt in the early 1960’s, they dropped the 371 Detroit Diesel and replaced it with the 4 cylinder, 452 Detroit which was used in the Cockshutt 1900 and 1950 tractors.
